Seriously shameless plug

Many of you know my work in TV commentary, but I also dabble in theatre as another form of writing and creativity. One of these projects is now taking off to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival!

Seriously: Pet Shop Boys. Reinterpreted was staged last year drawing upon the amazing songs of the legendary British duo as a “popera” with five singers, a grand piano and a string quartet. It had sellout performances and rave reviews, including one from Variety in the US which said, “the impact is electrifying ….an original and resounding success.” The Age said “it’s a sin to miss.”

It has since won the support of composers Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe, who we met in April, and so we are off to Edinburgh for August. Tomorrow night (Fri 20th) there is a highlights fundraiser at the National Theatre in Melbourne with the original cast (Maria Mercedes, Tania Doko, Paul Ross, Anthony Costanzo, David Gould) and guests Eddie Perfect, Supergirly and Reuben Krum. Gold Logie winner John Wood is hosting. If you’re in Melbourne come on down for a great night!

Maria Mercedes sings “Left to my own Devices” / Cast sing “Red Letter Day.”

There is a second trailer on our official website, plus more ticketing info: www.seriouslypsb.com

So as you have probably deduced, this site won’t be as heavily maintained through the month of August.

I will still be supplied info and posting when I can but it may be a bit more erratic!

And no, in case you’re wondering the title has nothing to do with Channel Ten!

  1. This is an absolutely brilliant musical with a terrific cast. I’m sorry to have missed tonight’s performance but so pleased it’s being performed before Australian shores.

I know Edinburgh will embrace it the way we did. All the best to everyone and thanks David for a great interpretation of the Pet Shop Boys.
