It’s time to go: Big Brother?

Is Big Brother about to be evicted from TEN?

That’s the latest speculation, according to an article in The Age.

Network executives and producers are in negotiation over whether to continue the show. There is also talk a “high profile cast member” is considering other offers. Given the show only has 4 regular cast members (Gretel Killeen, Mike Goldman, Ryan Fiztpatrick and Bree Amer, that really only qualifies one as high profile).

Big Brother underperformed this year, despite TEN finding ways to give an upbeat overview.

But without BB in its schedule, TEN would need its own high-profile replacement for 2008.

  1. If you look back, Ten had commited Torchwood to be moved *before* the BB finale. And besides it still did poorly with the huge lead.

BB simply needs an overhaul and less censorship. Maybe they’re waiting till after the election to make any announcements?

  2. Gretel deserves much better shows than this … she is a legend!
The extra hour of vote counting last time round was pathetic … they just didn’t want the gay boy to win! And they also stuffed up Torchwood and provided a lame excuse to move it to midnight!
    Jack!

  3. Doesn’t BB regularly win in its key demographic? This is what draws in the sponsors. How many other shows average roughly a million viewers six nights a week for 14 weeks?

  4. There’s an article in Brisbane’s Courier Mail talking to the Executive Producer of BB, Kris Knoble where he calls the rumours “a load of crap” and BB is a “staple diet” for Ten and they are “refreshing the format” before auditions begin.

So where did these rumours come from? Are we going to see a major cast change?

  5. Why do we need to have our own versions of reality shows that are popular overseas? We dont need to have anything if people are not interested.
Everything has its day and after 7 long years, i want to see something new and more entertaining. There are so many new shows being produced every year and because this program, more so than others, takes over most nights and runs overtime, there is no room for anything else.
This year had the lowest ratings in its history and it will get lower and lower – people are sick of seeing the same thing over and over again.

  6. I’d be happy to see this show gone. I have nothing against the show itself. I just think it’s boring and stupid. What I have a problem with is how Channel 10 treat it like the televised equivalent of the second coming.

  7. Low ratings mean more than one thing silly!

You can’t compare it to a drama series – it’s a show were the format and cast change every year. If you choose the wrong cast and follow bad production ideas then of course people won’t watch.

BB this year has been very safe and have censored the heart out of the show.

Overseas BB’s are going into their 9th season’s next year with strong ratings. BBUSA has become the 4th longest running primetime shows CBS have had are not waivering.

If Australia won’t do it, why not screen the overseas BB’s and see how it can be done!

  8. Low ratings mean one thing – people are not watching it anymore because its not interesting.

Its time to put it to sleep and put something else more enjoyable for viewers to watch.

  9. So you think you can Dance is an Idol format only taking a couple of hours a week….not 15 that BB takes up! That’s a huge gap in their shedule!

BB’s producers need to overhaul the show, put in interesting characters, bring back uncut and have less censorship!

  10. It would be pretty moronic of TEN to abandon Big Brother now. Particularly since it performed WELL considernig the stale housemates. Besides, what else have they got to air at 7pm other than Futurama? And let’s face it, reruns of axed sitcoms haven’t done them any favours in the past (funnily enough, Futurama was axed, but at least it has replay value, and the fact that it’s been renewed has shown TEN that it was a good investment in the long run).

The producers also need to overhaul the voting system. I daresay, one that DOESN’T charge at 55c per vote. I haven’t voted ONCE in the entire history of BB thus far purely due to the cost. Sure, 55c doesn’t sound like an awful lot, but I can think of better things to spend my money on (particularly if I make a habit out of it). Perhaps if they offered other incentives for voting (such as a weekly prize for instance), I would consider it, but I’m not pumping money into this cash cow without the possibility of getting something in return.

And it’s no secret that they need to bring back UNCUT. It’s bad enough that this season’s Up-Late was censored to death. Many instances of the F word were censored, as well as “mother****er”, which is allowed under the M rating. Hell, look how many F words Summer Heights High managed to get away with.

But hey, if want to go ahead and axe it, that’s fine by me. 🙂
