Meanwhile, elsewhere at SBS…

Publicists employed at SBS continue to wind up their employment following SBS’ decision earlier this year to outsource its presentation and playout facilities to UK-owned company, Red Bee Media.

The Community and Public Sector Union has questioned what will happen to 20 staff on AWA contracts and is giving SBS “one last chance to come clean with their plans for outsourcing.”

Otherwise it will be referring matters to the Industrial Relations Commission.

  1. Red Bee certainly has been busy. Isn’t it strange that since Red Bee took over the Australian Caption Centre, SBS is making its subtitlers, who were working as captioners, redundant? I say strange, because most of the subtitlers were working as captioners since SBS management decided that it is cheaper to buy foreign films subtitled overseas, irrespective of the quality of the subtitles. So what happened to all that extra money that is being generated by impugning the integrity of the channel with the in program advertising? It certainly isn’t going to the employees. Oh, yes, I forgot… SBSi is getting it for all those programs being outsourced to casuals.
