Foxtel fasttracks American Idol

Foxtel has announced it will screen the next American Idol just 5.5 hours after it airs in the US.

Both the live sing-off and verdict show will air twice weekly from mid-January on Fox8.

“American Idol will truly screen day and date. Australians will now be able to tune into this smash hit series at the same time that Americans will,” said Foxtel Exec Brian Walsh.

Idol fans will be able to get their weekly fix on Wednesday and Thursday nights as well as a behind the scenes show on Sunday nights which will spill the beans on the highs and lows of the week, all being screened at 7.30pm.

12 American Idol wannabes have been selected for the seventh season out of 70,000 hopefuls. Tune into American Idol 7, exclusively on FOX8 this summer to join our celebrity judges, Mr Nasty Simon Cowell, sharp-tongued Paula Abdul and peacekeeper Randy Jackson. FOX8 will follow the progress of the talented contestants until the grand final in May 2008.

Tune in to the live shows as the final contestants sing their hearts out to different theme shows each week, for the coveted title. Who impresses the judges and who buckles under the pressure? Will Simon’s favourite contestant walk away with the top prize? Who will take their place next to Kelly, Ruben, Fantasia, Carrie, Taylor and Jordin to become the seventh American Idol?

  1. awesome news! I was getting sick of wasting my download limit on downloading this show twice a week – did it for the last 2 years – but my love of the show forced me to. now, my only question – will it be in widescreen? or will fox8 do the dodgy like they did with the rockstar series and just give us a crapola 4:3 feed??

  2. ah! idol how it should be done, no insipid banter between the hosts, one less large ego on the judging panel than we have to deal with..and most importantly..no Kyle Sandilands..I cant wait! Good work foxtel!

  3. The problem with Channel TEN is that they aired the last season MONTHS if not almost a whole year after it aired in the US, and I immediately recognized the winner (Taylor Hicks) during the audition show. It might not have rated so badly if they aired American Idol closer to the US airdate.
