Dec 1: World AIDS Day

Saturday may be the last day of the 2007 Ratings Year but it is also World AIDS Day. The theme for the 2007 Australian World AIDS Day campaign is HIV/AIDS: Prevention is everybody’s business.

In past years, all networks used to commemorate the occasion with specials and concerts, most notably the Red Hot and Blue series and Nelson Mandela concerts. MTV used to have almost 24 hours of specials and concerts highlighting HIV awareness.

Now those days seem long gone. Not even SBS or the ABC has any programming for the day itself – though they do have some excellent programmes falling on other days. ABC’s excellent Rampant documentary will screen Monday night at 8:30pm.

So it is left to subscription TV to mark the occasion with the following shows:

The Pieter-Dirk Uys Story [Bio/3:00pm], Ashley Judd’s Aids Mission [NatGeo/6:30pm], Primetime Oprah – NBA Legend Magic Johnson on AIDS in America [W/7:15pm], The Missing Face [Discovery Home And Health/8:30pm] and White Shadows [Aurora/9:30pm].

SBS is also screening the excellent Age of AIDS documentary series 1:15am Wed morning and Living On 3pm Wed.
