First Mary, now Stan?

Speculation is gathering that Stan Grant is to step down from SBS’ World News Australia.

The rumours follow yesterday’s announcement of a settlement between former newsreader Mary Kostakidis and SBS.

According to The Australian, the SBS Christmas party this week was abuzz with talk that Grant had quit, either to join the al-Jazeera network, or return to CNN where he was based in both Hong Kong and Beijing. He has also been said to have been offered a job with the World Bank.

It’s been a troubled launch of the new-look SBS News for new boss Paul Cutler, for a product that whilst it may not have set the ratings on fire, always had wide respect.

Yesterday Kostakidis said, “I would like SBS viewers to know that I leave with absolute goodwill towards the organisation and wish it all the best.”
