Local comics move into The Mansion

Foxtel continues its comedy romance with Melbourne after relocating the channel earlier this year, with the announcement of a new local series, The Mansion.

It will feature to comedians Michael Chamberlin (Skithouse, Rove Live) and Charlie Pickering (Triple J, Stand Up ABC TV). The two will offer their views on current affairs, entertainment and sport, with topical skits and sketches.

The 13 part series filmed in Southbank will air from March 2008.

FOXTEL today announced an addition to its already impressive local production slate. THE MANSION – a new home-grown gritty and daring comedy series, to be produced in Melbourne will debut on THE COMEDY CHANNEL in March 2008.

THE MANSION is a weekly, half-hour comedy program to be hosted by Michael Chamberlin (Skithouse, Rove Live) and Charlie Pickering (Triple J, Stand Up ABC TV).

Each week, viewers will visit THE MANSION, where they will meet the two young comedians and discover their take on the latest in current affairs, entertainment and sport. THE MANSION will also feature topical skits and sketches written and created by the two hosts.

FOXTEL’s Executive Director of Television and Marketing, Brian Walsh, said “Michael Chamberlin and Charlie Pickering are two bright and inventive comics who have enormous television potential. FOXTEL is delighted to give them a brand new television vehicle to showcase their unique talents. Combined with Stand Up Australia, this clever new program continues to show our commitment to local production and the comedy genre. THE MANSION will provide another fresh and funny option to viewers who want more comedy on television.”

THE MANSION will be produced by Stagetime Productions Pty. Ltd. in association with Rocket Science and filmed at the FOXTEL studios, Southbank. The series will comprise of an initial order of 13 half-hour episodes airing March 2008.

Hosts Michael Chamberlin and Charlie Pickering come from extensive comedy background having featured on numerous comedy programs on both television and radio. Long-time friends, the pair have written and performed together for many years, as well as branching out separately for several gigs.

Michael has been a cast member and writer for the comedy series Skithouse, been seen on Rove Live, Spicks and Specks and Stand Up and worked with Charlie on a weekly comedy segment on Today. He has performed at the numerous comedy festivals around Australia including his show ‘Buddha, Bluey and Me’ at this year’s Melbourne International Comedy Festival.

Charlie spent several years as co-host of the Triple J drive program and more recently began a Saturday morning show called ‘Toast’ on Triple M. He has also appeared regularly on Rove Live and performed in the 2006 Melbourne International Comedy Festival Gala. In 2007 Charlie has spent many months travelling the globe including Johannesburg, South Africa, as part of the UN Comedy Roadshow and supporting Danny Bhoy’s national tour in New Zealand. Charlie also received a Perrier Best Newcomer Nomination at the 2005 Edinburgh Fringe Festival for his show “Betterman”.
