More Chopping Block ingredients

A few more details have emerged about The Chopping Block, Nine’s new reality series from Block producers David Barbour and Julian Cress.

The two producers are known to be Gyngell favourites, having followed him at his behest to LA.

Each week two Melbourne and Sydney restaurants will be reviewed by a secret critic and given $5,000. With assistance from restaurateur Matt Moran they have 72 hours to overhaul their menu, service and décor in an effort to win his approval.

Hosted by Moran and Catriona Rowntree, The Chopping Block will only have a cash prize of $20,000, presumably every week.

Press Release:

The Nine Network announced that production has commenced on its new reality series – The Chopping Block.

Created by David Barbour and Julian Cress, of The Block, Celebrity Overhaul, Celebrity Circus and Overhaul fame, the series will be filmed in both Sydney and Melbourne, where two local restaurants will compete, not only impress the food critic, but take home a cash prize of $20,000.

Hosted by Getaway’s, Catriona Rowntree and Top Chef Matt Moran.

Each week two different restaurants will receive a review by a top secret critic, and then, with a budget of $5,000 and assistance from restaurateur Matt Moran, they will be given 72 hours to overhaul everything form their menu, service and décor in an effort to win over the critic and take home the cash prize.

As their business is scrutinized, how will everyone handle the brutally honest reviews, and the pressure will be on when they open on the final night, because somewhere in the crowd, will be the food critic, writing his final review.

Cameras will capture all the behind-the-scenes drama as it unfolds, one single mistake, could be their undoing.

The Chopping Block is produced by Granada Productions and the series will go to air in 2008.
