The Nine Network has picked up three new UK shows:
Secret Diary of a Call Girl stars Billie Piper, based on the blogs of London call girl Belle de Jour.
Life in Cold Blood, David Attenborough’s final series about the natural history of amphibians and reptiles.
Rock Rivals an Idol-based drama focussing on two judges whose marriage is falling apart. The show features an interactive element allowing viewers to choose a winner. It is produced by the team behind Footballers Wives and Bad Girls. Simon Cowell will co-produce.

All the David Attenborough documentaries have been shown on the ABC so I think the ABC will be disappointed that it misses out on Life in Cold Blood. (It also means the DVD and the companion book won’t be sold in ABC Shops)
Conversely, why is Nine interested in natural documentaries from the BBC? Is Nine buying the program just to hoard it? I can’t see Life in Cold Blood shown in primetime in the ratings season.
WOW great pick up Nine, I can see this going down really well for your new much younger target audience. Keep up the fantastic work!
Well spotted by my astute readers!
I can’t believe the ABC has allowd NINE to get hold of Attenborough’s final series?!?!?! What stupidity!
Looks like I’ll have to start downloading BBC as well as US shows now.
Hello! not wanting to split hairs at all but “Secret Diary of a call girl” and “Rock Rivals” are ITV shows rather than BBC! Cheers -Craig
Dear Mr Editor of the Media section of The Australian… can I have a job please? Your current crop of journos isn’t that crash-hot.
“Secret Diary of a Call Girl” is not a BBC show. It’s an ITV show produced by Tiger Aspect, and is airing in the UK on ITV2.
And “Rock Rivals” (shudder)… No, not BBC either. Guess where? Yep. ITV, this one produced by the company behind “Footballer’s Wives” (shudder II).
That leaves “Life In Cold Blood”. And yes, THAT one is a BBC show.
One out of three ain’t bad, I guess. Unless you’re the media section of a widely-read and trusted national broadsheet.
