No Deal as Antiques cashes in.

So is this a case of everything old is new again?

Yesterday Antiques Roadshow beat Deal or No Deal nationally for the first time.

Antiques scored 628,000 viewers to Deal’s 623,000.

The day before Deal was 698,000 to Antiques’ 603,000.

Nine’s quaint UK import is certainly giving them better results than Bert’s Family Feud, and at a fraction of the price. It fares better in Melbourne than any other city. Added to this is a small drop in viewers for Seven’s noisy game show.

Thursday was a neck and neck day for the big two networks. Seven won the night by a razor-thin 30.0% share over Nine’s 29.9%. This week, Nine is putting in one of its better performances this year -just 0.3% behind Seven so far.

It makes the battle for Saturday night’s election coverage all the more juicy. John Howard may take small comfort from the fact that antiques sometimes can fall over the line.

  1. I used to love DOND – but lately they have been cheating the contestants more than usual with offer and its becoming a turn-off to watch. Don’t blame people for changing the channel.

  2. I used to watch DOND regularly a couple of years back but now find it loud and annoying. Antiques on the other hand is quiet and relaxing television. I don’t watch either (I watch 10 news) but if I do it’s AR rather then the assault on the senses that is DOND. Nice to see quality rate over rubbish for a change!
