Former ABC and SBS Andrea Stretton has died from lung cancer.
Ms Stretton presented the arts program Sunday Afternoon from 1998 to 2001 after co-hosting The Book Show for SBS.
She received the prestigious Order of Arts and Letters from the French Government in 2000 for contribution to arts and culture and the fostering of French-Australian relations.
Her long-time friend and former colleague Peter Ross told abc.net.au she will be greatly missed.
“In the arts community she was seen as being a really important figure,” he said.”I think that’d be one way of describing her, although she was perhaps the least pompous woman I’ve even known in my life.”
Ms. Stretton is survived by her partner Alan, her son, and a granddaughter.

I googled my mums name & found this comment. I too remember this lady as warm, professional & a great memeber of the arts world. Smoking kills!
I was a regular viewer of the Arts program and much admired her warm and engaging personality.
She will be missed.
very sad to her this news, was she a smoker?
I am really shocked and sad to hear Andrea Stretton has died. I have long admired her as a journalist and her incredibly warm and engaging broadcast style. It is a huge loss and I am so sorry for her partner, son and family. I send my condolences and will miss Andrea’s luminous presence hugely.
