Proudly Out and still About

The Australian-produced gay travel TV series Out and About is having its second season on subscription TV this month.

But Foxtel has dropped its priority for the series, moving it from an evening timeslot on Arena to Saturday afternoons on the Bio Channel. It launches at 5pm this Saturday with an episode on Portland, Oregon.

The series, presented by Melbourne’s Marc Savoia and Sydney’s Kate Monroe has already aired on the US gay cable network, LoGo, where it is known as Round Trip Ticket. Given most queer-produced television in Australia languishes on community broadcasting, it is rare to see such a big-budget assigned to gay TV.

The globe-trotting series looks at gay life in various cities, meeting artists, politicians, DJs, designers and uncovering little-known tourist secrets. This season they visit Dublin, Mexico City, Perth, Rome, Bangkok, Rotterdam, Buenos Aires, Montreal, Cairns, Tokyo, Manchester and Austin.

Out and About premieres 5pm Saturday Dec 15 on Bio Channel.
