ABC and BBC sign with MySpace

The ABC and BBC have forged a deal with MySpace to allow users the ability to upload and share clips from some of their favourite shows.

It is another example of Australian networks using social networking as a promotional tool. Both TEN and Nine already have YouTube channels.

The ABC has jumped into bed with MySpace as a way of allowing copyright material to be shared.

The arrangement with the ABC includes Australian TV shows such as Summer Heights High, The Chaser’s War on Everything and Enough Rope with Andrew Denton.

BBC’s catalogue of programs will include Doctor Who, Robin Hood, The Catherine Tate Show, Red Dwarf and Top Gear.

MySpace claims that it is offering a more social alternative to YouTube videos.

“YouTube’s a video site, MySpace is a social network,” said Rebekah Horne, vice president of Fox Interactive Media and MySpace in Australia and New Zealand.

“You can watch a (MySpace TV) video, blog it, email it, and add it to your profile.”
