Dr Phil meets Britney

Dr. Phil McGraw visited Britney Spears in hospital on Saturday, which must have been ‘reassuring’ for them both.

I have little interest in following the tabloid that is the Britney bandwagon, but you’d have to hope that McGraw isn’t really serious about putting her on his self-titled show on Monday. Sure it would be a great coup, but what doctor would seriously subject her to such public scrutiny when she is clearly so fragile?

Gossip site TMZ.com says her parents will record an interview Monday and air Tuesday. It also says Spears was unreceptive to his arrival at Cedars Hospital, and was unaware he was coming.

“My meeting with Britney and some of her family members this morning in her room at Cedars leaves me convinced more than ever that she is in dire need of both medical and psychological intervention,” said McGraw.

“She was released moments before my arrival and was packing when I entered the room. We visited for about an hour before I walked with her to her car. I am very concerned for her.”

But according to TMZ, “we’re told if he was walking behind her, that’s news to her. She absolutely was not accompanied by him.”

Hey Phil, why not interview Chris Crocker?

  1. Dr. Phil has never had a license to “provide psychological services” during the time he has been on the air. However, the real issue with him is not his professional licensure, but what that licensure confers on his professional ethics. Dr. Phil lost his license for sleeping with a patient. He has never complied with the minor requirements of Texas to reinstate it. Given what Kathy Griffin says on her new show about how he put the moves on Jane Fonda during a celebrity roast for Larry King, the real concern is his motives for meeting Britney. Larry likes hot bodies. He introduced his son to a Playboy playmate so he could have one in the family. Dr. Phil is just the kind of psuedo professional who would prescribe sex with the therapist as the only sure prescription. In Brtiney’s currect situation, she would go along with him without realizing she was getting herself into even greater problems.

  2. According to Shane Salerno’s excellent expose on the self-help movement SHAM, Dr Phil actually ceased practising as a shrink because he was “sick of his patient’s whining about their problems.” This is not someone who should be let anywhere near a person in a fragile mental state.

  3. WOW. Dr Phil is a ****, I’ve self censored as to not land anyone in trouble. If anyone has seen his show he doesn’t actually solve problems, or even say anything that must of the audience isn’t thinking, this guy is the worst kind of TV around.
