Golden Globes scaled back

A full Golden Globes ceremony is now off the agenda as the HFPA and NBC nut out a plan for a scaled down “Press Conference.”

It seems likely an agreement will now telecast a hotel press conference, red carpet and party coverage, much of which would be televised either by NBC through its NBC News division or other existing programs.

UPDATE: Arena advises it will not be airing any NBC telecast in Australia, to be replaced by a repeat of the Royal Variety Performance.

Meanwhile It remains to be seen how many nominees would attend parties or a press conference if there was no formal ceremony. “Unless I know my guy is winning, I’m not sending stars in to sit on a folding chair just to hear someone else’s name read out at a press conference,” said one studio publicist.

NBC and the HFPA said an official announcement of the plan would likely come Monday afternoon.

  1. Pity Letterman’s still not on NBC. Could have employed his writers, he could have hosted (I actually enjoyed his Oscars gig!) and the nominees could have showed without crossing picket lines!
