Mad about Mal

TEN’s Melbourne newsreader Mal Walden continues to show he’s not without a sense of humour when it comes to reading the news -and that’s a good thing.
On Thursday’s TEN News at Five, Mal had trouble with pronunciation of the word “phenomenon.”
How priceless is that smile at the end, after he finally gets it right?
Mal’s often finding ways to keep the news lively. Last year Mal famously derided a news story he was forced to sit through, after Angela Bishop did a piece on the ‘mile high’ hostie, Lisa Robertson
Seriously, fun News Mal. Keep up the good work!

I’ll admit, I loved his memorable reaction Angela Bishop’s stupid ‘mile high’ hostie story, he’d said what most of us were thinking.
However his “phenomenon” stuff-up was concerning to me, given I’d heard him refer to Amy Winehouse as “Amy Whitehouse” in a news article – I think the day before the “phenomenon” slip.. so I’d been wondering if she was getting too old for the news, and wondered if the executives at TEN were watching..
Hilarious, just what I needed this morning, light hearted laughter.
Wish we had that guy in Sydney, he seems like a great fun newsreader.
Neon you’re a star!
Take that, Angela Bishop.
Here you go, courtesy of a tip-off from a friend and TenHD’s time-shifted news broadcast…

Be sure to keep listening as Mal reads the story, and also the piece at the end which is edited in from a few minutes later after the following story…!
