Same same for SBS week

SBS has now delivered its schedule for the first week of official ratings, and in true form shows no marked changes from the preceding week.

Like the ABC, SBS doesn’t adhere to the theory of ratings weeks, despite the fact that it has advertising. An optimist would argue that SBS commitment to programming is year-long, regardless of ratings season.

SBS continues its biggest audience drawcard, Top Gear, which this week pulled in over 1m viewers. That may change once commercial networks pit their stronger shows up against it on Feb 11. Still, Top Gear did manage to beat some of Nine’s poorer choices last year.

Also doing well is Who Do You Think You Are which continues on Sunday nights. SBS launches a new locally-produced observational series, Inspiring Teachers next week. It promises to “celebrate the work of teachers who are often undervalued, underpaid and under appreciated.”

New eps of Drawn Together, Skins, Food Safari, and Dateline continue.

In the SBS commissioned romance doco Donkey in Lahore, an Aussie puppeteer falls in love with a Pakistani girl.

New South Park continues a week later plus a repeat series of Big Love leading up to the second season.

  1. where is the season three box set from the sbs…and on the same note, where is season four, five and six as well, I want to buy the DVDs but they are not even in existance!

    WHY SBS WHY?

  2. Hi David,

    Just a couple of comments.

    1) I agree with Jacob – Skins is an excellent show

    2) Congrats to SBS for some of their recent programming – eg the Bollywood films, and the films of Christopher Doyle. Great television.

    3) Even the Australian episodes of ‘Who Do You Think You Are’ have been worth watching.

  3. It depends on what episodes they have purchased and what episodes the cable channels have purchased. (re Mythbusters) If cable has a ll the newies then SBS aint got no choice to air whats in there stockpile.

  4. I wonder how long after the current series of Skins finishes SBS will screen the second series? I love that show, it’s seriously one of the most underrated shows on TV.

  5. A year-long commitment to programming? Bollocks, SBS!

They can only claim that they don’t have non-ratings periods because they slot them in year-through. Just look at Mythbusters – what have we had, maybe 4 new episodes and already it’s back to repeats AGAIN!

They have dozens of unaired episodes of Mythbusters left unscreened.

  6. Would it kill them to bring Oz back?

They were re-screening the entire series, possibly in conjunction with its long-awaited release on DVD, but they pulled it at the half-way point.

  7. Would it kill them to bring back Oz?

They were re-screening the entire series, possibly in conjunction with the long overdue DVD release, but they pulled out at the half-way point.
