TEN Head of Drama quits

Sue Masters, head of drama at Network TEN has quit. She leaves in January.

Masters, who was with the ABC before TEN, had commissioned The Secret Life of Us, White Collar Blue, Tripping Over, and The Surgeon, telemovies such as: BlackJack, Temptation, Go Big and Small Claims; and acclaimed miniseries: My Brother Jack, After the Deluge, Jessica, The Joanne Lees Story, The Society Murders and Mary Bryant.

Her decision to move on comes at a time when TEN’s drama slate is at a low ebb. It’s only ongoing drama series remains Neighbours. There are two telemovies coming in 2008, Emerald Falls and The Informant. The network has hinted at more to be announced.

TEN’s chief programming officer, David Mott, said, “Sue leaves TEN with enormous affection and respect from her colleagues. In her time with us, Sue has always demonstrated a love for television that was evident in every project in her charge.”

Masters said, “I am very proud of every production the TEN drama team has brought to life during my tenure. I will miss TEN and my many friends here but am looking forward to the next step in my career.”

Network Ten today announced that head of drama, Sue Masters, had decided to leave TEN to explore new opportunities.

TEN’s chief programming officer, David Mott, said: “Sue leaves TEN with enormous affection and respect from her colleagues.

“In her time with us, Sue has always demonstrated a love for television that was evident in every project in her charge.

“We know she will bring that same passion to her next endeavour and she deserves every future success.”

Ms Masters said: “I came to TEN wanting to learn from our programming team about scheduling and acquisitions, and I’m glad to have had that experience.

“I am very proud of every production the TEN drama team has brought to life during my tenure.

“I will miss TEN and my many friends here but am looking forward to the next step in my career.”

In her time with TEN, Ms Masters has overseen series including: The Secret Life of Us, White Collar Blue, Tripping Over, The Surgeon and Neighbours; telemovies such as: BlackJack, Temptation, Go Big and Small Claims; and acclaimed miniseries: My Brother Jack, After the Deluge, Jessica, The Joanne Lees Story, The Society Murders and Mary Bryant.

She has worked extensively in Australia, the UK and the US as a writer, producer and script editor on a diverse array of programs and has won every major industry award as a producer, including Logie, AFI, Emmy, ATOM and Human Rights awards.

Ms Masters will depart TEN at the end of January.

Mr Mott said TEN would announce her successor in the coming weeks.

  3. I really REALLY hope that one of the other Aussie FTA networks snaps her up as soon as possible, I couldn’t handle it if that sort of talent was lost to Subscription… or worse… overseas 🙁 I do wish her well though!

  4. TEN will soon turn into the new NINE if they don’t get rid of their idiot programmers and get in someone who actually gives new shows a decent chance at success!

  5. can anyone blame the lady.. TEN obviously has no committment to aussie drama.. the lack of a weekly drama series for the past few years must have been a heart ache for Sue.. Sue Masters is a talented lady and TEN will sadly miss her..

    Here’s hoping the Sue goes on to create more aussie dramas at another etwork or independently..
