Torchwood writer helms Law & Order: London

Torchwood producer-writer Chris Chibnall will become the showrunner on Law & Order: London.

ITV has ordered 13 episodes based on scripts from the original US show from independent procution company Kudos.

The broadcaster’s director of drama, Laura Mackie, told Digital Spy that despite being based on original US scripts, “Law & Order: London will look and feel very British, glossy, dynamic and with the style and energy Kudos brings to all of its drama.”

Chibnall will be responsible for the creative direction of the series and be its executive producer.

I visit the UK regularly for work each year and the ITV revival over there (after a few horrendous years!) is similar to that which 9 hopes to stage in Australia this year, ITV has overhauled its entire schedule…even ditching its always high ratings soaps, Coronation St and Emmerdale from sunday nights and has heavily invested in local dramas, including this Law and Order spin off, similar to Channel 9s investment in local product for 2008, in both countries viewers end up being the winners from better quality and greater choices and that has to be a good thing!
