Underbelly site launches

Channel Nine has launched a dedicated website for Underbelly at www.underbellytv.com

Poised to become the network’s biggest website for one of its shows so far, it currently has a 3 minute trailer of the new crime drama.

In coming weeks the show will have behind the scenes footage, character profiles, “family trees” that show how the characters interconnect and interactivity for fans of the show.

Significantly, the site also has social networking capabilities, allowing Facebook, Digg It and Stumble Upon links.

During the 2008 launch, new boss David Gyngell made a point of saying Nine needed to better embrace social networking as a form of marketing. It contradicts a recent Seven ruling that blocked Facebook for its staff.

Good to see more online marketing of television by Nine. Foxtel also recently launched its first blog late last year.

Underbelly launches in February with media getting their first look at the show this Thursday.

  1. I think those bagging the series really need to pay closer attention to what its actually about. There is nothing glorious about the lives of these people, as you would see if youd watched it properly and listened to it properly. If glory is what you see is being portayed then maybe thats the impression its making on you singularly. What glory is there to spending your whole life in fear of your life or that of your family? Or in having to be a constant source of terror to anyone else? All I saw was a bunch of very selfish, inconsiderate, greedy people stampeding their way through life at enormous cost to not only themselves but those around them. Shall we mention the children of the people in these cases? The whole thing is very disturbing, and what disturbs me more is to hear anybody consider any of these events glorious. Look closer, youll see its more of an eye opener than you first thought.

  2. i hope that it improves – for the moment it seems to be lacking the previous grace of the earlier original – certainly attributed to in part the irritating droned whiskey phoniness of that female narrator.

  3. like i said its a show for morons about morons why glorify the the lowest for of individuals in our society they use and abuse the weak in the community and throught their own moromc way justify the abuse of individuals who by thier own unfortunate circumstaces would otherwise not come with in co-ee of these parasites

  4. I think it’s a fantastic series.. Great Aussie actors. I was so sad when Jason Moran died…No let me rephrase it.. when Les Hill died. Its such a great series that I forget that, that truly happened…. Scary! I just hope the real Carl Williams and family don’t get any money for this show airing. I don’t understand why it wasn’t aired in Melb, it should have been… I can’t wait for the DVD’s to come out…

  5. I found it disappointing Underbelly was shot in HD video.Had it been shot in cine it would have added another dimension or texture too what is a top drama.I guess Channel 9 look at the bottom line before they look at artistic values.

  6. I think residents of Victoria/Melbourne should have an insight to what actually goes on out there under the radar.. It will open our eyes and make us more wary.. Like Cavallo said we should have the right to portray the real culprits also! They lost their right to privacy when they broke the law. Obviously, this show was banned or “halted” in Victoria, which is silly because it has been uploaded on the internet for everyone in Victoria to download!!! If need be, they should’ve banned it all over Australia and make everyone wait not segregate one state…

  7. The real reason why they’re not broadcasting this in Victoria is so the jury doesn’t feel sorry for the Mafia for having been the victim of bland portrayals on television. Inconsistent camera work, bad editing, countless random musical interludes, unlikable characters…bland script

  8. By banning Underbelly in Victoria the Justice System will bring even more notice and interest to the show. While it would have had a wide audience, it’s possible that now, with this notoriety” many more people will want to see it, and many will definitely find a way.

  9. I believe that this show should not go ahead as it can damage any case that has not finished.. there are trials still going and they are going to have problems if they go ahead and show this show, it can lead to miss trials if the information is incorrect, or they name people that they shouldnt, I can see some law suites happening, every one has the right to a fair trial, this will be damaging to those cases that are not finished, and it will sway any one that will be in the jury as they would have seen it on tv and know what they will vote..bad move, it should only show cases that are finish, and there are plenty…better think twice before airing it on tv.. watch out there is going to be problems if this tv series is shown…

  10. I am very disappointed that the legal system is letting the criminals of this world rule. they are letting them have their own way by not showing underbelly. I am reading the book at this moment and there is more detail in a book than what is shown in any program. it goes to show that the does hurt.
IT IS DICRIMINATION AGAINST THE PEOPLE OF VICTORIA. we should have the choice to watch or not watch a program. where is the legality of freedom of choice.

  11. Just what Australia needs, a tv drama to create heroes out of criminals.

This not be shown, its not something that should be dramatised. A documentary maybe but not like this.

As if the Victorian police don’t have enough problems as it is.

    Wrong move channnel 9

  12. I was lucky enough to be present when one of the episodes was being made 7 from what I saw I think in will be a great series.
What time and where abouts does the press get to see the prev on Thursday.

  13. I think there’s a lot to learn about what went on behind the headlines. True life crime is frequently the subject of storytelling. The more local drama and competitive networks we have the better.

  14. In fairness to Gyngo, Underbelly was commissioned under Eddie’s rule.

and yes, it is good to see Nine take a different online approach as opposed the tired old ninemsn set up most shows get

  15. looks average, after i watched it computer had a fit….
the problem ive got with it is like all bio pics and tv we know how it ends, no surprises, just as footnote wont it be great for the kiddies and parents who were at the football match that day to relive what happened in hd ……you suck nine
