ABC renews nine shows

America’s ABC network has renewed nine series for its 2008 / 09 season: Dirty Sexy Money, Private Practice, Pushing Daisies, Samantha Who?, Brothers & Sisters, Desperate Housewives, Grey’s Anatomy, Lost and Ugly Betty.

Conspicuous by their absence are Boston Legal (ABC says the show’s fate won’t be determined until May) and Men in Trees.

The network is still considering how to handle the remaining orders for this season on all of the renewed shows. Variety reports that what eventually happens will vary, according to show. In some cases, back nine orders will be shot, but held for next year. In other cases, shows will go back and fulfill back nine orders, shooting as much as possible before the season ends.

What actually airs before the end of the season is also still in question. Some shows will be held back until they can be properly relaunched in September’s Fall season – including Pushing Daisies and Private Practice.

How this affects premiere dates for these new shows in Australia remains to be seen.

Both Nine and Seven are expected to have nine episodes of both shows at present. Nine has promoted Pushing Daisies as “coming soon” so is unlikely to wait until September. Seven is yet to commence promotion on Private Practice other than to indicate it will air in 2008. Logically it would screen following the end of Grey’s Anatomy.

Also not making the list were Cavemen, Carpoolers, October Road, and the already-cancelled Big Shots.
