Airdate: Eureka

Kooky sci fi drama Eureka will join TEN HD’s sci-fi Thursdays from 10:30pm March 6th.

Set in a town somewhere on the northwest coast of America, Eureka is home to scientists whose experiments don’t always go to plan.

U.S. Marshal Jack Carter (Colin Ferguson) stumbles upon this odd town after wrecking his car and becoming stranded there. When the denizens of the town unleash an unknown scientific creation, Carter jumps in to try to restore order and consequently learns of one of the country’s best kept secrets.

Amusingly the show also cast actor Matt Frewer, better knows as Max Headroom.

Reviews for the show were mixed, but it has been renewed to a third series by the SciFi Channel.

The Seattle Post-Intelligencer said, “It’s all very quirky. Too quirky, maybe, for an audience that is used to spaceships, robots, and explosions. Though every episode promises an “aha!” moment based in quantum physics and obscure scientific laws, this world is relatively flat, conceptually speaking, in comparison to the complexity woven into series such as Stargate SG-1 and Battlestar Galactica. This does not mean Eureka is a complete waste of time. Not at all. The characters are fun, Ferguson is believable and pleasant, the script is solidly constructed, and the visuals are slickly produced. All in all, it’s a sweet series and probably not long for this world.”

The New York Daily News said, “With its playful new series Eureka, set in the Pacific Northwest and telling the story of an outsider who comes to explore, and settle in, a remote town full of eccentrics, Sci-Fi Channel isn’t just inviting comparisons to Twin Peaks and Northern Exposure. It’s demanding them. But co-creators Andrew Cosby and Jaime Paglia hold up to them pretty well. Eureka has a premise, a cast and a plot that make it one of the TV treats of the summer. The folks at Sci-Fi Channel clearly intended to reinvent the summer TV series here, and come up with something breezy and fun. And Eureka – they’ve done it!

The show will air in place of Journeyman which ends on February 28.

  1. I love this show and wish it were broadcast to all viewers.
Channel Ten has a history of airing some iffy shows and making some dodgy programming choices.
Then there is this show which is coming up to its third season and has solid content and great storylines and acting. They don’t even give it a chance on regular Ten!

  2. Big kudos to Ten, by the way, for actually airing every existing episode of Journeyman, which sadly is no more.

I’m more and more impressed with Ten HD as they go along; while Seven struggles with its HD plaything with dreadful content and amateur-hour presentation (4 minute ads for The Police’s Greatest Hits 10 times a night/ Spare us!) Ten has hit the ground running.

  3. Damn shame it’s only the city folk who get these shows. Eureka is a damn fine show. I’ve got the first two seasons already. It’s not as serious as some sci fi out there, but it’s a lot of fun and can be both hillarious , sweet and serious. The episodes are standalone but also have an ongoing plot which leads to a brilliant and sad finale for season one.

  4. Why Cant Regonal NSW get Ten HD!!!, i meen Wollongong isnt regonal.
I miss so many great shows, Battlestar Galactica, Smallville, Friday Night Lights and now Eureka!!!
    David please help
