House: the doctor is out

Australia is about to feel the first real bite of the US Writer’s strike.

House is about to conclude on the TEN Network, only three weeks after it returned.

TEN will screen the “season finale” on Wednesday March 5. “Don’t Ever Change” aired in the US on February 5 and is the last episode to have aired there.

Aussie networks finally bit the bullet with ‘fast-tracking’ of shows last year, but did not anticipate the effects of the ongoing strike, which began later. It effectively means shows they moved forward, including House, would run out of episodes sooner rather than later.

The FOX drama is expected to shoot 4 new episodes to air in April/May.

House returned to TEN’s schedule this week against Underbelly, gaining 1.2m viewers.

  1. Its all good, its not like the shows are gone for good and its not like people will hate the shows when they return later in the year.
Of course it would be god to have an uninterupted series of each show but absence makes the heart grow fonder and the fans will be even hungrier when the show returns.
Some shows are already back in production and some shows have promised episodes at the end of March and by April. So it wont matter.
I cant remember the last time Ugly Betty was on TV and Im sure it will rate just as good when it returns. Its the waiting that sucks.

  2. In the context of my original article, Seven has held off all fast tracking of its 07 shows into 08.

    Lost wasn’t fast-tracked last year.

My original point of course was how Ten returned a fast-tracked show and is about to run empty. Cheers 😉

  3. “Seven has held off all its fast-tracked shows so far.”

except for Lost…which is only a week behind the USA.

And because this is “extra-fast” fast-tracking, I am choosing to watch it on TV this time around.

  4. The difference here is that TEN fast-tracked House before the writers strike, leaving them with 4 new eps in 08.

Lost didn’t return until recently giving Seven 8 eps.

Seven has held off all its fast-tracked shows so far. If they hold off a few months they might build up more to avoid the problem TEN has found.

  5. I don’t see a problem here, besides having to wait some months before new episodes become available again.

Fans of LOST has a similar situation. The producers asked fans about it and the overwhelming option was to show the eight completed episodes and wait for the rest later in the year.

Fast-tracking is a Very Good Idea (considering the volume of downloaded shows).

  6. Its good that House got 1.2, its better quality than Underbelly. Laurie is believable as House, While Collosomo was dreadful. I think someones wathced too many 80’s Stallone movies
