Ratings 08: And they’re off!

Sunday February 10 2008 is the first day of the official television ratings year.

Prime time ratings are audited by OzTam between 6pm and midnight. Last year Seven stole glory from Nine, but Nine is hungry to snatch back its crown.

Ratings will continue until Saturday November 29. This year Easter arrives relatively early, with two weeks of non-ratings from March 16 – 29. It is traditionally a time when networks rejuvenate their schedules.

This year the Seven Network has the Beijing Olympics plus the AFL Grand Final, but Nine is hitting back with 40 new shows, including four new Australian-made dramas. TEN has its hopes set on reality favourites.

And as always the ABC and SBS don’t recognise the ratings season, offering what they deem as year-round programming.

Let the games begin!

  1. Agree with Leo of Melbourne – loved the one-two combo of Dance and Brothers and Sisters last night! I had forgotten how melodramatic B & S could be – but damn I love those characters 🙂

  2. Best of luck to the networks!
I will be watching with bells on tonight – So You Think You Can dance on 10, Brothers & Sisters on 7 – thank god the ratings season is back!
    Let the fight begin!

  3. Ratings are actually “audited” 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, but let’s not spoil the networks’ paranoid delusions, now, ok?

I mean, “ER” was pulled off air a few weeks ago for… well, not rating well enough. How odd, since technically there were no ratings.

    The whole thing is farcical.
