And about time too!
The Seven Network has finally signed a deal with Foxtel which will allow for the retransmission of its signal to subscribers.
It will be available to Foxtel cable subscribers in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth, and the Gold Coast within weeks.
Seven boss David Leckie said “This is great news for our viewers and we are excited about this new positive phase in our relationship with Foxtel. Seven’s objective is to deliver our programming to all Australians, and we look forward to making our programming content and information available to more viewers than ever before.”
Retransmission of 7HD will occur on Foxtel’s cable platform only, not satellite.
No word if the network was inspired by the impact of Sorry Day!

In a win for Australian Television viewers, FOXTEL and the Seven Network have signed a retransmission deal which will see FOXTEL retransmit the Seven Network’s signal on FOXTEL’s digital platform.
The Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of FOXTEL, Kim Williams AM, and the Chief Executive Officer of Seven Media Group, David Leckie, signed the agreement in Sydney today.
The retransmission deal will provide cable retransmission of Seven’s digital signal on FOXTEL’s platform, ensuring a clearer digital experience, in addition to Electronic Programming Guide information, for FOXTEL subscribers watching Seven. It will be available to FOXTEL’s cable subscribers in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth, and the Gold Coast in a matter of weeks. FOXTEL’s satellite subscribers in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane will receive digital retransmission in early 2009 – as soon as the new Optus D3 satellite is operational.
FOXTEL’s CEO, Kim Williams said: ““Today’s retransmission deal with FOXTEL and the Seven Network has been a long time coming and means that FOXTEL now has retransmission agreements with all networks. Consumers will enjoy unequalled access to FOXTEL’s comprehensive range of digital services including the Electronic Program Guide and iQ recording functionalities. FOXTEL will continue to work towards the Government’s digital switchover plans.”

Only ones that do so far are SBS and ABC
I got a surprise when channel surfing my Foxtel satellite box in Sydney on April 1. Started at channel 100 went through to 106 by pressing the channel up button.
I expected my next channel up button press to skip channel 107… but surprise, surprise, channel 107 appeared as channel 7 and had good ole Andrew O’Keefe hamming it up as usual on Deal or No Deal… 🙂
Hmmm… I was under the impression that Foxtel satellite viewers had to wait until next year (when the new Optus satellite went up) for channel 7 to appear.
So once again Perth misses out. Most of Perth is covered by Satellite and so far none of the FTA are available on Foxtel in Perth.
If the Foxtel Satellite users car to read the press release they would notice that they can’t get 7 until the Optus satellite is ready. It looks to me that their current satellite is running out of bandwidth, which probably explains for poor channel quality they’re getting from overseas.
That still doesn’t help me since I have Foxtel on satellite. Would it really be that hard for them to put it on satellite as well? But I suppose it’s still good news for when we do eventually get FTA channels on ours too.
Long have I waited for this day! Thank you Seven. I can now finally use the EPG to program Channel Seven programs. I only have one question, why on earth did they wait this long??
any idea when channel 9 and 10 on foxtel will be available in WA?
As a FOXTEL satellite subscriber, this really doesn’t help me right now. It’s disappointing we have to wait an entire year (or more).
Now, can we convince Foxtel to group the the FTA channels together away from the PAY Tv channels?
Maybe they can simplify our lives by giving them the same channel numbers as our digital TVs 002, 003, 007, 009, 010, 021, 022, 033 etc…

About time this happened- 7 was the only FTA channel NOT available on Foxtel(it was kind of, analogue signal and no EPG).
David, it looks like pigs are flying! But it is a stupid decision as well that some areas of South East Queensland (including some of this country’s fastest growing suburbs like where I live on Brisbane’s northern outskirts where only satellite is avaliable) have to wait till early 2009 (less than twelve months before digital switchover.)
Finally!! Nine has only been on Foxtel listings for about 4 years, ad TEN for 6 months.
