TEN Perth appoints news presenter

Channel TEN Perth will appoint the city’s only Aboriginal TV reporter Narelda Jacobs to the role of presenter of the News at Five bulletin.

Jacobs, a graduate of broadcasting at the WA Academy of Performing Arts, will fill the vacant role left following the death of Charmaine Dragun last year.

She will read the news in Perth when the bulletin relocates from Sydney in May.

“Narelda is very much part of the fabric of Ten News in Perth,” said Ten Perth news director Chris Hunt, “and has made a major contribution as a senior reporter. We are looking forward to her joining Tim Gossage and Michael Schultz on air later in the year.”

Jacobs has worked in a variety of reporting roles in the Perth newsroom and is currently a specialist court reporter.

She joined the Ten Perth News department in early 2000

  1. Great to see abit of colour in the news, Austalia is very much lacking when it comes to the diversity of it’s TV broadcasters.

Having recently come back from the UK & US the number of ethnic faces on tv just outdoes our local broadcasters.

Question, When was the last time you saw an Asian or Black Australian TV news reporter?

  2. That’s excellent news!
Narelda is a top journalist, about the only reporter in Perth who doesn’t stuff up whenever she does a live cross. A well deserved promotion.
