Alan Dale hits out at Neighbours producers -again

Either Alan Dale is asked the same question a lot, or he really has an axe to grind over his time in Neighbours.

Dale is again quoted in the UK press attacking producers over his treatment during his time on the soap.

“It was sweet and the people I worked with were sweet, most of them,” he said.

“But the producers were greedy and nasty. There are many examples of the things these people did and, as far as I know, are still doing.

“When you live in a country where there is not much else to do as an actor, there isn’t much choice but to put up with it. But I used to fight them all the time, which is one of the reasons we parted company.”

It follows his comments last year about the reasons he snubbed the 20th Anniversary celebrations.

“They’re making a TV show out of it and there’ll be a documentary of course, and they’re making money out of that.

“They’ll sell it all over the world, make millions, and still not a dollar for us.

“We didn’t discover, for example, that the show was a hit in England until it was on the front page of the local paper. They didn’t tell us because they didn’t want us to know, because they might have to pay us more,” he said.

Dale is set to make an appearance in the UK stage production of ‘Spamalot.’ He will also be appearing in Torchwood, Sea Patrol, Ugly Betty and this week in Lost.

  1. this guy shits me, i remember seeing him on “where are they now” last year via Sattelite from LA and just thinking that he was a smug arrogant twat

  2. I’m guessing he has an axe to grind. If he was sick of hearing the questions he would simply say that.
I havn’t read the full interview but from what you quoted here he may have an issue with royalty payments both at the time of his role in Neighbours and after.
I don’t doubt the producers may be greedy, but in saying that and moving overseas to become an “American” actor shows that your not content with making a living in Australia. (and granted, a hard one at that but it happens)
Another reason that supports Dales claims is the fact they killed his character off not giving him a chance to return. It may not always be the case in the show but it does happen where the creators/producers are so sick of dealing with the actor that when they leave, instead of leaving the character open for a return, they kill them off.
One part of me says “Good on ya Dale for making us aware of one facet of our industry” and another part of me says “Why crap all over the show that gave you a start and the place to really develop as an actor”
    So be it!
