Aussie actress lands Joss Whedon project

Another former Neighbours actor is set to make their mark in an international series.

Dichen Lachman, who played ‘Katya Kinski’ in the TEN soap from 2005, has landed a lead role in Dollhouse, a new drama from Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator, Joss Whedon.

Lachman will join former Buffy / Angel actress Eliza Dushku who stars as ‘Echo’ plus Tahmoh Penikett (Battlestar Galactica), Fran Kranz, and Enver Gjokaj. The series has a 7 ep approval by FOX.

The drama is about a group of men and women, known as dolls, who are charged with carrying out a series of “assignments”. They can be imprinted with different memories, skills, language and abilities appropriate to each task.

Lachman will play ‘Sierra’ described as “20s, Asian. Strikingly beautiful. A Doll like Echo, she has every personality in the world but her own. Is not as self-aware as Echo but is instinctively drawn to her as a friend.”

Penikett will play FBI agent Paul Smith who wants to find the dolls, viewed by others as an urban myth. Kranz (Welcome to the Captain) joins as bright-spark programmer Topher Brink who does the imprinting.

Of Tibetan / Australian descent, Lachman joined the cast of Neighbours as ‘Nurse Katya Kinski’ in 2005. She originally auditioned for the part of Elle Robinson, Paul Robinson’s daughter, but as she wasn’t ideal for the part, the character Katya was created for her. At the beginning of 2007 she moved to West Hollywood.

  1. A seven episode approval by serial show-killers Fox means nothing – just ask the producers of “Drive” 🙂

I’m greatly looking forward to this one – though VERY surprised that Whedon would be so silly as to trust Fox again – but I’m also looking forward to whatever trailer they put together for this one.

I mean – look at the cast names. They’re Man With The Voice Who Does Trailers’ worst nightmare!

“…starrring Dichen Lachman! Eliza Dushku! Tahmoh Penikett! Enver Gjokaj! Klaatu barada nikto, blfffblbbble! Fridays on Foxxxxxx!”
