Aussie Baywatch actor comes out

Australian actor Jaason Simmons who starred as a hunky lifesaver in Baywatch during the 90s (left) has told New Idea magazine he is about to marry his boyfriend in Canada and together raise a boy from an African orphanage.

Tasmanian-born Simmons was 24 when he shot to fame on the US action drama. But after three years and with two years still on his contract, he quit Hollywood.

Now at 37, he is looking forward to family life with partner John O’Callaghan, an Irish actor who adopted a Ugandan boy two years ago.

John proposed only 8 months few months after they met.

People said ‘Isn’t it too quick?” remarked Simmons.

“But it’s different when you’re 37 and you’ve gone through the mill and been kicked around and learnt stuff. If you both want the same thing and are on the same journey, and you’re together until you pass, what’s too fast? If you know, you know.”
“We’re doing it for our family and for my soon-to-be son. Although you don’t want to typecast yourself, you have to take responsibility and ownership and move humanity forward, out of bigotry,” he said.

“Our son needs to see we can stand in front of family and loved ones who are going to support our union through the good times and bad.”

  1. Right, I didn’t know all gay men do that: putting extra letters in their names.
Who would have thought? And, you Adam with extra letters need to get out more.

On more serious note. I didn’t even know who the actor was, because I never watched the show.
