Australian Idol 2008 auditions add LA & London

Australian Idol 2008 has announced its auditions from Albany to Albury, Hobart to Darwin, and added LA and London on the stop too.

Kyle Sandilands will look at expat singers in Los Angeles, while Ian “Dicko” Dickson will check out the talent in London.

Auditions begin April 6 in Newcastle and take in Darwin, Cairns, Brisbane, Sydney, Albury, Melbourne, Hobart, Adelaide, Albany, Perth. But Canberra and Alice Springs miss out.

Significantly, Idol no longer screens on Imparja TV in Alice Springs, where the local community swung behind 2006’s Jessica Mauboy.

Also missing from the Press Release is any announcement of Andrew G and James Mathison. Recently, there was speculation Andrew G might not re-sign for the reality juggernaut.

Press Release:

Network Ten and FremantleMedia Australia today announced the Australian Idol 2008 Audition dates including an exciting new development – for the first time in Australian Idol history the audition trail will now extend to include London & LA!

In Australian Idol’s ever expanding search for the best singing talent they can find and with well over 1 million Australians living abroad, Australian Idol is on the search for talented ex-pats! With more Australians living in Los Angeles and London than the ACT, Northern Territory and Tasmania combined, Idol will tap into this fantastic and as yet unknown talent pool of Australians who are living and working overseas in Britain and the United States.

In Los Angeles and London our search is to find Australian citizens who have left our shores to chase their showbiz dreams, or Aussie’s who have headed off on another career path but are looking for a new challenge that could bring them home!

Australian Idol wants to give as many Australians as possible the chance to be part of this entertainment phenomenon.

In the past 5 years Australian Idol has created a fantastic platform for many singers who have gone on to become ‘household names’. Whether it’s singing, acting or TV presenting, Idol is proud of its talent heritage and history-making record sales.

As Series 6 takes shape there’ll be no stopping the Idol audition trail as it weaves its way around Australia, Los Angeles and London.

In Los Angeles on Saturday 13th April at the iconic Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, judging will be hosted by the man who knows the city so well, Kyle Sandilands, as he casts his eye over what the west coast city has to offer. Armed with celebrity guest judges, Kyle is ready to hear what our LA ex-pats have to offer.

Over in the UK, Ian “Dicko” Dickson will play host to the London auditions on Saturday 19th April at the historic Cumberland Hotel, which is nestled right in the heart of London’s West End. It is common knowledge that London is a favoured stomping ground for many Australians and Dicko is eager to explore the talent pool that has congregated there.

Australian audition dates commence in Newcastle on 6 April and will continue throughout every state in Australia, coast to coast, in a bid to find exceptional talent.

There will be exciting times ahead for Australian Idol in Series 6 and for our three outspoken judges Marcia, Dicko and Kyle. More news and celebrity judging announcements yet to come…

  1. Mydoona, Pauline Hanson is looking to recruit more racists in her remake of the One Nation Party. You could be a prime candidate.

Seriously mate, no one is superior to anyone else due to the colour of their skin or the country they came from. God created everyone equal. Racism is nothing but an ignorant hatred that manifests due to the racist’s inability to like what they see in themselves. Using your stupid logic, everyone who is born in a country should stay there for the rest of their lives. Shut up.

Also, Damien Leith is a fantastic singer and a top bloke, and infinitely more “Australian” than you based on ethics and values alone.

  2. mmm, maybe ive missed something but i dont see the point in this, if the person is successful in the overseas audition wouldnt they have to return to Sydney for the rest of the process anyway just like everyone else?

  3. Hah! Its like “damn we kind find anyone decent these days, maybe we should errr extend our borders a bit? To make it fair… yeah fair thats right” 🙂

    After all its just Karaoke!!
