Gordon Ramsay to film local series

Hold on to your toques (chef’s hat)….. Gordon Ramsay is coming to Australia.

In a killer move by the Nine Network, Gordon Ramsay is to open a restaurant at Melbourne’s Crown Casino, and the entire project will be filmed in a locally-produced reality series.

As Ramsay’s star rises in Oz, surrounded by controversy over his notoriously foul mouth, Nine’s move is a brilliant programming manoeuvre.

According to the Herald Sun, Ramsay said he would arrive in June to shoot the show. “It is absolutely very, very exciting,” he said.

The search for a chef to run the venue will form the basis of the show, which will air on Nine this year.

Ramsay continues to help Nine’s 2008 ratings with impressive figures for both the UK and US versions of Kitchen Nightmares, despite the fact that programming of Ramsay has been almost an after-thought for Nine. Last year the Network took off Hell’s Kitchen because it wasn’t happy with the figures. Now he’s bigger than the Supernanny.

  1. I love Gordon Ramsay and would love to meet him. I live in Melbourne and know he is in Sydney at the moment because all of the press about him and Tracey Grimshaw. Although i think she is very nice from tv, i think that everyone should give him a f***ing break. He is a decent guy doing his job and people f*** him over for it. Yes he is aggressive, but does he get results? F*** yeah!! Just watched the final of Hells Kitchen and just wish you could tell me a way to meet him. I manage a pub so can’t travel but will go anywhere in Melbourne to meet him. Mr. Ramsay you F***ing rock xxx

  2. But you have t admit pennypacker (very smooth name!) no show n Tv lasts for ever, I’d be interested in knowing the average season run for a show, saying it will disapear one day is obvious, a show gets popular, then public tastes change and the show is wrapped up. I find it strange people get upset when a show is axed, people have to leave the party eventually and its worse when someone out stays there welcome.

  3. Funny that you should say it’s bigger than Supernanny, it’s almost the same deal – last minute reality filler which has suddenly taken off. I remember they were discussing a local version of Supernanny but couldn’t lock down the star to do it. I hope it goes well for them – it’s an entertaining show and on my TV right this minute, but I’m reminded of Supernanny – could be gone just as quickly.

  4. > despite the fact that programming of Ramsay has been almost an after-thought for Nine.

And therein lies the systemic problem with the Nine programming department – this show was only ever meant to be a “filler”, something to put on when they didn’t know what else to show. The fact that it has proved a ratings winner is proof enough of how their programming staff don’t have a clue what shows will do well with its audience.

  5. Agreed smart move by Nine albeit an obvious one considering Australia’s love affair with all things Ramsay! And the way things are going Seven will only win the year in the 55+ demo with Nine dominating in the 25-54.

  6. Good move by Nine!

Such beat up by the tabloid media in regards to the fowl language, seriously haven’t our MP’s got more important things to worry about?
