Newman given ‘all clear’

It’s good news for Sam Newman.

Surgeon Dr Laurence Harewood says he is confident Newman’s cancer has not spread.

He is expected to make a full recovery.

Dr Harewood revealed the news about 8.15pm during a Channel Nine special broadcast on Sixty Minutes tonight.

Doctors said the cancer was contained to Newman’s prostate, after tests following a four-hour operation on the 62-year-old Footy Show presenter earlier this week.

“That’s the best news I’ve ever had in my life,” Newman said on hearing the result.

“That’s what would be known as the supreme reprieve, I reckon.”

Newman, who played 300 games for Geelong, urged other men to follow his lead and get tested if they were at risk.

  1. Is this what qualifies as ‘news’ on the hard-hitting current affairs show like ’60 Minutes’ these days? I know it’s a serious health issue but it also stinks of network cross-promotion at its worst.

  2. Good on him. Cases like these are an inspiration to all those who are undergoing similar hardships. God bless anyone going through a rough patch and may He grant all the hope, blessings and joy into the lives of these brave people.

Its great to hear good news.
