On a high, dancer drops the F word

Pure emotion got the better of Sermsah Bin Saad as he was eliminated from So You Think You Can Dance Australia tonight.

Driving on adrenalin, he turned to his fellow dancers and said “You guys are ******* awesome!”

It was bleeped out by TEN.

Explaining himself, Sermsah told a surprised Natalie Bassinghwaighte, “I’m from the Kimberleys, we swear all the time.”

In the first week of eliminations, microphones picked up similar language from dancers, as they learned their fate in the reality competition.

A TEN spokesperson at the time said, “The issue has been addressed and efforts redoubled to prevent such an incident happening again.” Seems they were right.

Laura Brougham was also cut from the show tonight, the final contestant to represent Adelaide.

Language on reality shows has been problematic for similar live shows like Big Brother, resulting in the show being delayed, to allow a censor to add their magic touch to any magic words being dropped.

On the verdict show, TEN also pre-records both the opening dance number, and the guest band. The entire Sunday editions are recorded on Fridays.

If you have attended any of the SYTYCDA shows, don’t forget to leave your thoughts in the Studio Audience Spoilers.

  1. Is this really newsworthy, though? The “F word” is routinely bleeped on recorded and live TV during hours where it would be deemed inappropriate. It’s heard in movies all the time – yes, even PG-rated ones – and routinely used by so many people that it was deemed in court to NOT be “obscene” any longer.

I kind of hoped in the 21st century we’d gotten past the whole “ooh someone said a naughty word” scandal.

  2. Monday is divided into 2 recordings

Arvo: Group dance and guest band.

Evening: The evictions and “dance for your life” in a delay of approx 1 min to allow for censoring.

  3. There were greater travesty’s then that on tonight’s episode then the f word.

It is past 8.30pm and playschool was not the following SYTYCD.

  4. Ten definately wasnt ready for the slip up of the f. word as the delay would of given them enough time to bleep it, they didnt hold it on long enough, so not actually looking at the tv screen, i still heard what he said..better luck next time with the BLEEP-ken thing hehe

  5. Uh, what? Is this really live? If it was live, how could they add the censor beep in? Or is there like a two minute delay for cases like this? I’m confused. So, the studio audience who pays to see the show on Monday Nights, doesn’t actually see the opening number? They just pay to watch a TV screen at the start of the show? Or maybe it along with the guest performer are recorded on Friday nights before or after the performance shows? Uhh…I’m confused. I’m sure the explanation is perfectly simple.
