Returning: Rove

Rove is returning to his Sunday night programme one year after his 2007 return.

Last year McManus returned to hosting duties on April 1, following the death of his wife Belinda Emmett in 2006. It was an emotional and heartening return, as the nation swung behind a favourite TV son.

This year Rove returns on Sunday March 30*, according to The Australian.

But first he will perform some stand-up gigs at the Adelaide Fringe and the Melbourne International Comedy Festival.

His Network TEN Sunday night program, he explained, “ultimately is about the people who are watching at home. It’s about everybody who is not in the room. They’re the ones you’re playing to and hoping that they’re enjoying it.

“When you get on to the stand-up stage, that completely flips around. Whoever’s outside that building is irrelevant. It can become a lot more organic. If a routine is going well, the audience is really with it, you can expand on it. And you can mine it for a few more jokes that maybe you hadn’t thought of in the past, because the better the audience is, the better you are.”

The new stand-up show is simply titled Rove McManus. It will tour nationally later.
