‘Ugly Invincible Woman’ for China

China is to remake Ugly Betty renamed as a Chinese term meaning ‘Invincible Ugly Woman.’

It will be made by the same Chinese network that turned American Idol into ‘Super Girl.’

The Chinese adaptation has a budget of 150 million yuan ($US21 million), and shooting is slated to begin next month. It will run for five seasons, or a total of 400 episodes.

Producers have chosen a Chinese woman with no prior acting experience to play Betty.

Among the team of writers is Sheng Heyu, who wrote Feng Xiaogang pic The Banquet. The scripts will be modified to incorporate Chinese cultural standards (anyone want to take any bets on changes to her sister, ‘Justin’?).
