1.5m for Sally’s farewell

1.5m Aussies tuned in last night to say goodbye to a favourite daughter, as Sally Fletcher said goodbye to Summer Bay. It was up from 1.3m the night before.

Storywise, it was a humble, sentimental farewell without much fanfare (ok that was the episode before).

Sally took a few moments in her house of 20 years fondly looking back on the memories (presumably on and off camera) and reflecting quietly on the sand.

Fittingly, her final scene was with Ray Meagher, Alf flamin’ Stewart, her only other original co-star and an actor who now alone holds the title of longest-running actor on an Aussie soap. Strewth.

Following Home and Away Seven had a big drop to 923,000 for Ghost Whisperer averaged out over 2 hours. With more big figures for Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares, Nine won the night.

Here’s hoping Sally also waved goodbye to Yabbie Creek on the way to the airport.

Week 14.

  1. The use of the old school Home and Away background music when Sally was standing alone in the empty house was very fitting I thought. The whole ep was VERY classic Home and Away, but I doubt that style will stick around much longer. Back to murders, earthquakes and stalkers today…

Ugh… Ghost Whisper, that’s 2am television right there.

I had a customer at work (DVD store) today who wanted to start an argument over last night’s ep. She asked how long until season three was out on DVD and I explained that season three wasn’t starting until next week and that last night was the season two final, but she goes “Don’t be ridiculous, why would they have such a huge gap between them?!?!”

I felt like reminding her that Smallville, Veronica Mars, Six Feet Under, Nip/Tuck and Sopranos fans have had to put up with worse but then I just gave up. When she sits down and watches season two at home, she can eat her words.

  2. Such a big drop for Ghost Whisperer doesn’t surprise me as these were ancient season-finale episodes that would have made no sense to much of the audience as they heavily draw on events immediately before them. If they’d aired when they were supposed to…
