A new Dance card for Seven hit

Dancing with the Stars will no longer be produced by Granada International for the Seven Network, but by Freehand Productions.

Freehand is a joint company which includes John Gregory, Chris O’Mara and Peter Abbott, Australia’s original Big Brother voice. The company has previously produced Missing Persons Unit, Outback Wildlife Rescue, Skating on Thin Ice, Queer Eye for the Straight Guy (Aus), Honey We’re Killing the Kids and is producing the localised Top Gear Australia.

Granada Executive Producer Peter Beck confirmed that the company would no longer be involved with producing the format. “Now it is Freehand, being produced by Freehand,” he said.

Seven also confirmed that the production of the next version of Dancing With The Stars would be undertaken by Freehand.

BBC Worldwide owns 25% of Freehand TV, and under their arrangement, Freehand has first look at producing any BBC Worldwide formats in Australia.

  1. Haven’t 7 run out of celebrities yet? I tuned into It Take’s Two (!) and didn’t recognise anyone except some of the singers!

Surely this policy not to cross promote other network personalities is going to really hinder their shows? I really wish it was like in the US where this isn’t the case.

It would really benefit the industry in the long run!
