Arrested stars Develop Aussie spin-off

Former Arrested Development stars Jason Bateman, Will Arnett and Henry Winkler (aka ‘The Fonz’) will voice roles in the animated pilot of Sit Down, Shut Up for FOX.

The animation is based on a short-lived Aussie sitcom that once screened on TEN. It is being headed by former Arrested creator Mitch Hurwitz.

Also joining the voice cast are Cheri Oteri, Will Forte, Regina King, Nick Kroll, Tom Kenny and Maria Bamford.

And it’s not the only regional series getting a US makeover. Director Charles McDougall has signed on to head ABC’s dramedy pilot Good Behavior, based on New Zealand’s Outrageous Fortune.

The NZ drama centres on a family of criminals whose matriarch decides it’s time for her brood to go straight.

McDougall won an Emmy for directing the Desperate Housewives pilot, also for ABC/ABC Studios. His other credits include the pilot of The Tudors for Showtime. A good track record for sure.

On top of the US interest in Kath and Kim and Summer Heighs High there is now growing talk of US producers looking for more Oz shows to develop for the American market.
