Bring back Who Dares Wins?

Nope, this definitely not an April Fool’s gag. Tania Zaetta, former host of Who Dares Wins reckons Seven should give it a Gladiators-style comeback.

Quick somebody get Fiona McDonald on the phone. What about It’s a Knockout, or for that matter, it’s predecessor, Almost Anything Goes? Last week journo Andrew Mercardo also joked about a revival of Man O Man! And who loves ya Tim Ferguson, I’ve still got my toothbrush at the ready, just say the word.

Who Dares Wins saw contestants dared to take part in a dangerous, disgusting or embarrassing stunt of some kind in order to win prizemoney or holidays. It originally aired on Seven between 1996 and 1998, hosted by Zaetta and Mike Whitney (who refereed the original Gladiators).

“I would definitely do it again. It would be great, and I reckon they should,” Zaetta told AAP.

“If Gladiators can make a comeback we can definitely kick some serious butt and modernise Who Dares Wins.

Who Dares is probably one show that would be great to make a big comeback because it is still on air now.

“Channel Seven keeps repeating it and it’s been like 14 years or something. It’s timeless and dateless.”

  1. Tania Zaetta should get a life. Did anyone even notice her having been on TV since that show was axed sixty years ago? lol

No, wait, she’s correct, lets cut costs and cancel the American imports, lets bring back: Gladiators, Good News Week, Wheel of Fortune, Hey Dad!, The Young Doctors, and why not some old Home & Away cast members too… oh no.. wait, it’s already happening..

Let’s hope ABC1 brings us Doctor Who soon, something is not right with Australian television were going backwards.. fast!

    We need the Doctor!

  2. Well spotted Ian.

It was actually the original article in The West that made that error, but I should have picked it up. Surprised nobody else did before you.

  3. David, a slight correction. Mike Whitney was a referee in the original version of Gladiators. It was hosted by Aaron Pedersen and Kimberley Joseph with Pedersen later being replaced with Mike Hammond.

  4. I used to watch Who Dares Wins as a kid, but I doubt I would even contemplate watching it if they were to resurrect it. I reckon they’ve covered enough ground during the series’ original run. :/

  5. “Don’t forget your toothbrush” was one of my favourite shows ever! I still hum the tune and do the appropriate hand signals whenever appropriate.

    Shut up Tania Zaetta.

  6. Luke, I believe the original Who Dares Wins was axed because it was too expensive to make. But I stand to be corrected on that one.

The show’s still popular and was great fun – a lot more fun than Gladiators, too. I’d love to see them bring it back, but realistically, Tania Zaetta’s got about as much influence on that happening as I do 🙂

  7. There are so many reasons why it should get a “Gladiators style comeback”. Tania is willing, i’m assuming Mike is willing, Seven are still showing repeats in the afternoons, it had great ratings, it was a fresh family friendly show, it was exported to so many countries it’s not funny. And it still has its own website.(http://www.masonmedia.com.au/w_home/w_homefs.html)

Does anyone know why this was axed in the first place? I personally cannot remember.

  8. Let’s give Surprise Chef a Gladiators style redesign.
It’s this type of backwards thinking that ensures Seven will be #1 for years to come.
