Former housemates back for Big Mouth

Two former Big Brother housemates have been drafted by TEN for the upcoming Big Mouth edition.

Tim Brunero (2005) and Paul Dwyer (2004) will be regular panellists alongside Tony Squires and Rebecca Wilson.

The show will air in a 9:30pm Tuesday timeslot with an M or MA rating, potentially allowing for racy “uncut” material.

No doubt the two have come on board due to their contrasting styles of “brawn vs brain.”

Brunero, a journalist who writes for LiveNews said, “I reckon it’s going to be a blast, it can tackle content and issues that can’t be aired at 7pm,” he says.

“It’s also a great informal forum to discuss the meaty issues the show so often throws up, and – obviously – to unmercifully take the piss.”

Dwyer, who famously feuded with Merlin over his refusal to become an Australian citizen, has a slightly more pugnacious attitude to the show. “What excites me most is I can do and say what I like, when I like and not get evicted.

“The last time I shot someone down on national television they cried, so fellow panellists look out.”

Meanwhile Behind Big Brother Australia website has leaked some potential housemates -always a fun sport at this time of year.

  1. To be honest David, I am a little surprised that a certain post made it on here. It appears to be a notch or two more pointed than the last rant on the same topic and while I am not usually an advocate of censorship, I find it hard to sit back and not exercise a right of reply when it comes to others generalising about people they don’t know in such a blatently negative way – simply because of the tv shows they like to watch. I understand that you have attempted to rein things in and I am probably adding fuel to the fire. You have a brilliant blog here that provides a great service but I don’t post in here to be the target of anyone’s ill-informed put-downs. Insulting others who are trying to enjoy this blog is comletely unfair and unnecessary.

Thanks for letting me have my say. If you choose not to publish this statement I will understand.

  2. A reminder to all to criticise / praise / comment upon shows not one another on this site, please.

There are plenty of messageboards that serve as a better platform for that sport.

Indeed, there is nothing to stop anyone hosting their own blog if they have specific agendas to push.

As per Comments Policy the spirit of this site is to discuss television not launch campaigns, flaming wars or personal attacks on fans of BB, The Mint or other.

  3. I’d ask BB fans to use that creative side of their heads, but they don’t have one. All this show proves is that you put anyone on TV for 12 weeks (even sitting on the couch playing with their nuts)and all kinds of fugly couch potatoes will come out of the woods and worship them not even knowing why, these are the real unwashed masses, now I understand you guys have signs to make and forums to frequent asking about who will go naked in the shower, so off ya tot.
If neon can launch a nasty anti Mint anti C9 campaign, then I can launch an anti BB campaign 🙂

  4. Since Ch.10 doesn’t have a current affairs show, it has no real network voice to reach mass audiences and combat bad publicity. If channel 9 & 7 wanted to get stuck into each other’s programming (as they often do), they could do so using their flagship tabloid current affairs shows.

Attacking Ch.10’s programming was essentially a free kick and people often took Ch.10’s silence as guilt. There were a number of incidents last year on BB that should have been discussed never had the opportunity. Hopefully this will be that opportunity!

Wow isn’t it nice when the commentary is actually about the news article!

  5. There was an obvious void last year, not only with the axing of Uncut but the decline of Uplate into a mere money spinning late night game show (aka The Mint etc). I understand revenue generation is important but there does need to be some BB related content in the mix as well.

Some of the more interesting and colourful discussions on behaviours in the house happened in the BB forums. They need to somehow draw in the viewers who are interested in the interactions of housemates (not only the “will they or won’t they” or who showers naked stuff). I also hope this series is less reliant on set-up relationship scenarios – like secret mother/daughter or secret past boyfriend.

Some interesting and reasonably intelligent discussion on tv would make a nice change.

  6. That’s very interesting news. Tim was one of the more impressive and politically minded housemates and whilst Paul was the more confrontational surfie. Definitely a big contrast there!

Apparently the Big Mouth show was originally conceived for last season as Aaron Darc from the Pop Psychology website was in discussions to also be on the panel. In the end however it didn’t go ahead until now, but it’s an interesting change to the tone of the show.
