NBC slots Kath & Kim

NBC has announced the American version of Kath & Kim will air in a Tuesday 9.30 timeslot in the Fall season, between the The Biggest Loser: Families, and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.

“NBC has established itself as the place to go for the hottest, highest quality programs on television, and now we’re ready to take it to the next level,” Ben Silverman, co-chairman of NBC Entertainment and Universal Media Studios, said.

“They’re the most dysfunctional duo in suburbia,” is how NBC talked up the series in a press release sent to the American media.

“Kath Day (Molly Shannon) is the mum, a foxy, 40-something divorcee who finally has time for herself and her search for love.

“Kim Day (Selma Blair) is the daughter, a princess recently separated from her husband who finds consolation in food.”

Riley and Turner are executive producers of the series.

NBC is also investing heavily in Kath & Kim on the internet, with an extensive online element to the series.

Each week after the show airs the full episode will be available to watch on www.nbc.com.

The internet site will also have weekly “wine time” segments featuring Shannon and Blair as their characters discussing the week in pop-culture, fashion and neighbourhood gossip, beauty question and answer sessions and Kim’s dating profiles.

Sitcoms on NBC have traditionally been Thursday night fare. Still no word on the US ‘Sharon’ yet…

  1. Thanks Joe for that BL info.

The U.S. vesion of Thank God You’re Here didn’t go the distance – one comment was the comic who costarred in Seinfled who said the U.S. comics didn’t have what it took to improvise and they only used the scenarios used in the Aus version and they weren’t as funny.

So it will be interesting to see how they handle it. Will they rehash our storylines or start from scratch?

  2. I hope the US version of Kath & Kim work well, but I can’t imagine it being anywhere near as popular as here. I just hope they can do it justice in their own way.

I think Biggest Loser: Familes is just a families twist to the show. And *SPOILER* I belive those contestants are somehow involved in our show in the coming weeks.

  3. At least HBO’s screening the original Aussie version of Summer Heights High (instead of butchering it with their so-called “American” humour).

  4. I’m thinking Aussies will be too busy comparing the two programs too enjoy the show. I dont think we are going to see to many similarities to our version and there isn’t anything wrong with that. The popularity of the show over here just makes it nearly impossible for the show to be accepted here, there’s no way in the world we will ever say its better, and knowing basic human dynamic we will reject it to even more empower our own show.
I’m looking forward to seeing it!

  5. Looking through the US TV Sites, it’s more intresting to see what ISNT being talked about by NBC – Scrubs.
with Scrubs no longer being programmed at all,it’s pretty much a 100% chance that the show will end up at ABC next season (US Fall)

Biggest Loser struggles against some of the competition in the US,but provides good 18-49 numbers , so hopefully K&K can gain something out of that…weird that it’s leadout is SVU…not a great match, but then again,CSI Miami follows Old Christine

  6. So K&K & Summer Heights High – Perhaps Australian Comedy is finally taking off o/s.

Will we ever get to see “The Biggest Loser: Families” show that was mentioned in this article?

  7. mmm, if memory NBC are producing this, which means that it will prob screen on Seven here if it airs in Australia?
The first episode at least here would rate its arse off, im not a huge fan of K&K but I know id be curious to see what the yanks do to it!
