Nine needs to move on Powerless show

The horrific figures for Power of Ten last night, just 521,000 have guaranteed it will have to exit its high-profile timeslot. The show was thumped by a repeat of Border Security (1.79m), So You Think You Can Dance Australia (1.24m), Australian Story (1.32m) and even beaten by The 7:30 Report (932,000). The Nine game show was only 1,000 viewers ahead of Mythbusters 520,000 viewers.

As a result Nine’s evening share was far behind Seven’s, no help as a lead-in for Sea Patrol -which bounced back with an impressive 1.21m.

Nine’s choices are now to either remove it from the schedule altogether, or let the episodes play out in a low key timeslot, a shame for Steve Jacobs given he wasn’t the problem with the show.

Those ready for “Bingo-payback” should Power of Ten contestants not get their prize-money can relax. TV Tonight hears nobody won very much in the recordings of Power that Nine could just pay them off anyway. Last night there were more “winners” walking away with $100 bucks.

  1. Putting a very light weight show like this up against shows that already have established sizeable audiences was another example of dooming a show to failure. I feel sorry for everyone involved in a show that isn’t supported by realistic expectations of management. The show may have made a good Friday or Saturday Night family show or alternative to those who aren’t into football.
It was condemned by its timeslot.

  2. I caught about 15 minutes of this show last night and am utterly gobsmacked that anyone ever thought it could be a winner. I know that sometimes TV is a gamble but this one seems a no-brainer to me. Steve Jacobs did his best to create drama where there was none but no one could have saved this turkey. Having total guess work and dumb questions (e.g. the who do australians think has a more annoying accent question – I doubt too many Australians have ever given the question a moment’s thought) as the premise for a game show seems like a daft idea to me.

  3. I’m with GCG the percentage thing just goes on and on just show us what it is without all the ‘suspense’. Having said that I didn’t mind it but it was frustrating with no one actually winning anything. Seems like a tough show to do well at. Ah well off to the boneyard for the Po10!

  4. I didn’t mind it, but what lost me was the spinning percentage thing in the middle.

It spun up and down pointlessly just to build the suspense. The “woooos” of the crowd made it even more tacky.

Just show me the winning percentage and move on.
