Nine reporter on the way out?

Veteran news reporter Brad Schmitt (pictured) has reportedly been asked by Nine’s Sydney news director Ian Cook to resign.

Schmitt joined Nine in August 1983 after starting on ABC radio in his home town of Perth.

The Australian reports the dismissal of Schmitt and of Los Angeles correspondent Christine Spiteri may signal the network is clearing out senior reporters in favour of cheaper, enthusiastic newcomers.

But it also notes an attempt by Nine to poach Seven reporter Chris Reason. Spiteri, who is dragging Nine before the courts, has allegedly been shopping herself around to other networks.
