On a Mischa for MTV

Fresh from receiving a three year probation in relation to her drink driving charges in the US, Mischa Barton is heading our way for the MTVAAs next Sunday.

Barton, best known for The OC, joins a growing list of music, tabloid and media personalities: Wyclef Jean, 50 Cent, Juliette Lewis & The Licks, Eve, The Vines, Kim Kardashian, Dizzee Rascal, Leona Lewis, Brian McFadden, Lyndsey Rodrigues, The Veronicas, Jason Dundas, The Chasers, Kisschasy, The Potbelleez, Scribe, Rogue Traders, Merrick & Rosso, Mick Fanning and Ian Thorpe.

Voting in the public categories closes on Friday April 25.

SYDNEY, SUNDAY APRIL 20 2008: MTV Networks Australia today announce that actress, ‘It Girl’ and style icon, Mischa Barton, will attend the MTV Australia Awards 2008 as a special guest presenter. Mischa will attend this years star studded awards show to announce Hollywood’s ‘new action hero’, Matt Damon, as the recipient of the first ever MTVAA ‘Movie Star’ Award. The MTV Australia Awards 2008 will air on Saturday April 26 from 7:30pm with an encore screening on FOX8 Sunday April 27 from 6pm and Saturday May 3 from 7:30pm.

Mischa Barton was catapulted into super-stardom after landing the role of ‘angsty’ teen ‘Marissa Cooper’ in the cult TV drama ‘The OC’. Since then Barton’s career has moved into the realm of feature films, which has taken the actress to locations across the globe. This will be Barton’s first time attending the MTV Australia Awards, and she is thrilled to be announcing one of her favourite actors as the recipient of the first ever MTVAA ‘Movie Star Award’.

“I am really excited to be coming back to Australia for the MTV Australia Awards” said Mischa Barton “I’m looking forward to a great night of live entertainment and presenting the’ Movie Star’ Award.”

After winning an Oscar with best friend Ben Affleck in 1997 (Good Will Hunting), Matt Damon had a kick start to his career that most actors would only have dreamed of. Since then, not a year has gone by without box office success for Hollywood’s hottest actor. Damon has proven himself successful in the fields of comedy, drama, thriller and most recently, action. Damon has become a modern screen legend since taking on the role of Jason Bourne in the critically acclaimed series of ‘Bourne’ action films. Touted as the new ‘Bond’ – Damon has made the Jason Bourne character into every girl’s fantasy and every guy’s hero. His success over the last decade has truly made Damon into the ultimate movie star for the ‘MTV Generation’.

Alongside the ‘International Music Artist Of the Year’ and ‘Sports Award’, the three ‘recognition’ awards have been nominated by MTV Australia as a way of acknowledging people who have had a significant influence on the Australian MTV audience.

The MTV Australia Awards 2008 will feature eight live musical performances and eleven awards presented across music, film, television, sport, viewer-generated content and topical pop-culture moments. Eight categories will be viewer-chosen with voting open from now until April 25, 2008. The remaining three categories – favourites in sports, film/tv actor and international music artist will be selected by MTV Australia as a way of acknowledging those who have had a significant influence on the Australian MTV audience and are yet to be announced.

Viewers can have their say at the MTV Australia Awards 2008 by voting for their favourite nominations online at http://www.mtv.com.au/awards. Viewers will also be eligible to win tickets to the show simply by having their say online.
