Roscoe signs for 2 more years

Seven CEO David Leckie has secured Sydney newsreader Ian ‘Roscoe’ Ross for another two years, to keep the network at #1 in the Sydney market.

67yo Ross has agreed to put his retirement plans on hold following extensive negotiations with Leckie.

But there is gossip Chris Bath had her sights on replacing Ross. Seven News chief Peter Meakin was at pains to dispel the industry scuttlebutt yesterday, insisting Bath had been deliberately kept “in the loop” and was aware of Leckie’s decision to renew Ross’s contract before leaving for Bali last week.

“It was Chris’s decision for us to announce the news when she returned from Bali – a trip she planned months ago – for this very reason, so it wouldn’t look like she was doing a runner,” Meakin told Confidential.

“We said to her ‘are you cool with this’ and she said absolutely.”

Leckie said he was “delighted” with the deal, praising both Ross and Bath for their “tremendous” efforts.

  1. I actually thought this was a April Fools joke. As for 7 on Foxtel digital satellite, all there is on that channel is a message saying See you in 2009 when the new satellite is in the air!
