America’s Nickelodeon will take on High School Musical with its own music-themed comedic telefilm set in a high school, Spectacular!
Former Home and Away star Tammin Sursok, currently appearing in The Young & The Restless, has won a lead role. Sursok previously attempted a pop music career in Australia with her single “Pointless Relationship.”
Spectacular! “dives into the world of high school choirs, where a preppy girl meets a brash rocker guy while belting out tunes, and ultimately, finding love in the pews.” Riiiiiiiight.
Rather than being a fully-fledged musical where the characters break out into song, but it is intended as “a performance-based spectacle” (get the difference?!).
Nickelodeon is initially planning on one film, but is open to the option of Spectacular! sequels.
Other cast members include Nolan Funk, Victoria Justice of Nick’s Zoey 101 and Simon Curtis.
Filming begins on April 21.
