Idol wins by landslide

America has a new Idol.

David Cook and David Archuleto fought it out for the 2008 pop title earlier today.

The finale saw a special appearance by George Michael (with flu) singing “Praying for Time.”

Gladys Knight, Jack Black and Robert Downey Jr also appeared.

The winner of the contest won by a landslide. To see who it was read on…

Winner: David Cook (pictured, left)

American Idol finale aired live in Australia this morning on FOX8 and is repeated tonight at 7:35pm.

  1. I absolutely loved last night’s finale especially David Cook with ZZ Top! I even taped it two hours later so I could watch bits of it again today. Rarely do I tape anything.
David Cook was definitely a worthy winner. David Archuleta would have stood more chance had he been the same age as David Cook. Clearly we prefer a mature performer for many reasons. I have to disagree with Tony though, I didn’t hear a great voice in Aussie(has been living in America for ten years,)Michael Johns.
I also prefer the format of the American show. It doesn’t repeat as much stuff as the Australian version, and it does a better job of keeping you interested. You never want to flick through other channels in case you miss something.

  2. Watching through this season showed me how much Channel Ten tweaked the formula for the worse.

Australian results are about 7 minutes of show, with all the rest montage packages, product placement and ad-breaks.

America at least doesn’t slap you repeatedly in the face throughout. They deliver results pretty rapidly, and episodes always seem much tighter.

  3. Well, that’s a relief! All three judges did their best to get Archuleta up, but I always thought he was a wimp who should have been voted off weeks ago. Of course, the better performers (the Aussie and the Irish girl) were already gone. This season proved, yet again, that Oz Idol produces a greater depth of talent than the American version.
