Origin’s 2m touchdown

Nine’s first attempt at a nationwide 7:30pm screening of the State of Origin didn’t exactly make the southern states sit up and take notice, but it did get the network over the glorious 2m mark.

The match touched down with 2.092m viewers, and it’s been a long time since we’ve seen a figure like that all year.

In Sydney the audience was 897,000. Brissy had 710,000 viewers. Melbourne’s 283,000 lost out to Spicks and Specks (425,000) and a repeat of House (368,000). Perth drew 119,000 and Adelaide just 84,000.

Nevertheless, Nine managed a huge 35.6% share over Seven’s 23.1% and TEN’s 19.2%. Failing a miracle by Seven (or a blunder by Nine), Nine will win the week -it is already 4% ahead of Seven.

SBS was another to benefit from the nationwide match with Food Safari hitting a best ever figure of 508,000. The show is currently SBS’ most popular show.

Another Origin match is set for June 11.
