Slapdown splashdown

‘H.G Nelson’ (Greig Pickhaver) will today be shooting the new Comedy Channel series Comedy Slapdown, in his Host / Referee role.

Production of the Wrestling-meets-Theatresports comedy has been underway at the ABC’s Ripponlea Studios in Melbourne. Five teams will compete in a round-robin style tournament set between the ropes in the Slapdown wrestling arena.

Competing celebrities showing off their improv skills include Matt Tilley, Stephen Hall, Corrine Grant, Julia Morris, Stephen Gates, Damian Callinan, Paul McCarthy and Julia Zemiro.

Matt Parkinson serves a resident judge with John Thorn on keyboards, Eddie Barro as keeper of the Slapdown Belt and ‘Miss Wing Ding’ as holder of the round numbers. The judging team will also include a celebrity guest and an audience member.

Each show sees two teams, Red and Blue – consisting of three comic improvisers each, jump into the ring and go head to head in a series of improvised games in pursuit of laughs. The winning team from each show will move a step closer to the final where the two funniest teams will play off in a title fight finale.

The series will be 12 x 50 minute episodes for the Comedy Channel.
