ACA breaches ACMA Code -again.

ACMA has found GTV9 breached the Industry Code of Practice 2004 in a segment broadcast during A Current Affair on 17 July 2007 in not providing a fair representation of viewpoints. It is the fifth time since 2005 a Nine licensee has been in breach of clause 4.3.1 of the code.

The ‘Greedy Lender’ segment featured a financial service company alleged to have claimed late payment fees from a borrower. ACMA found ACA aired a one-sided segment in the knowledge that the other side of the story could not be given.

Under clause 4.3.1 of the code, in broadcasting news and current affairs, a licensee must present factual material accurately and represent viewpoints fairly.

The Nine Network has advised ACMA that it has conducted intensive training with reporters and producers, implemented new compliance measures which should be sufficient to avoid similar breaches in the future and uwil continue to train relevant staff and monitor compliance with the code.

In March 2008, ACMA announced breach findings for QTQ9, in relation to A Current Affair. The GTV segment, however, was broadcast prior to new compliance measures being implemented in full. It also pre-dates the assurances given to ACMA at the time.

  1. Cos it was a GTV9 licensee breach where the show currently emanates with Ed, and Tracey was at TCN9 at the time of said breach.. either pic would have been out for one reason or another. I think everyone gets the fault was 2007 and Ed is 2008, it’s still the same show…
